We had a gentle start to the day and took our time over breakfast chatting to a Canadian couple from Vancouver taking a short break. We then went on a trail leading through some very old trees and past lovely little coves and beaches.
We watched a zodiac boat go by knowing that in a few hours we would probably be on the very same boat whale watching.
Back at the B &B we went down the steps from the garden leading to a little cove below. We had planned to sit on the sand but the high tide had covered the sand so Hazel sat on rock instead until the tide threatened to leave her stranded. We then headed for our whale watching trip.
Here we are all ready to spot a whale or two.
We had been told that whales were proving difficult to find today. After over an hour going straight out to sea (thankfully it was a sunny and relatively calm afternoon) we spotted two humpback whales. Honest there are two in the picture above.
After observing the whales for a short while we started our return to Tofino. We stopped to look at seals and sea otters on the way.
The whale watching trip was very good and we were just unfortunate that we did not see more of the whales.
Once back on dry land it felt only fitting that we should have fish and chips for tea.
We then sat and watched the sun go down over Tofino, what a stunning sight it was and a nice way to end our day.
After 3 1/2 hours in a zodiac boat Hazel says that she's ready to tackle any white knuckle ride!
Bring it on!!!
